Jordan Shapiro - guitar/vocals

Jordan Shapiro is a Brooklyn based multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, bandleader and composer. He has been working as a professional musician in NYC since 1999.
From 2000 – 2003 he toured full time as keyboardist/vocalist for Frank Zappa tribute band Project/Object, featuring former Zappa bandmembers. This experience brought him to every corner of the country, performing at theatres such as Great American Music Hall (SF,CA), Fox Theater (Boulder, CO), Fox Theater (Atlanta,GA) and Irving Plaza (NYC).
Since 2003, he has led the progressive bluegrass band Astrograss. The band has released 2 full length CDs, one featuring its progressive/newgrass sound and another featuring its 'family-music' sound. Each CD features the original songs of Jordan Shapiro. The band worked with kids music legend Dan Zanes on an EP they released in 2006, and was featured as his backing band on a compilation CD he produced. Astrograss performs yearly at the legendary Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival in upstate NY.
In 2008, Jordan released a full length CD with his progressive alt.country band Cold River. The CD featured many ambitious compositions, combining both his progressive rock and Americana influences with his original songwriting.
As of 2009, Jordan has been studying the folk music of the Balkan region in southeastern Europe. He has primarily been learning the music on accordion, and also applying it to other keyboard instruments. His new trio, "Choban Elektrik" plans to release a full-length CD of their psychedelic adaptations of Albanian and Macdeonian folk tunes in May 2012.
